January 7, 2015: Dr. Dave Safronetz brought a presentation on the recent Ebola outbreak. Dr. Safronetz did his undergrad studies at the University of Saskatchewan and his Masters and Doctoral studies at the University of Manitoba and the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg. His doctoral research focused on hantaviruses, specifically field work and pathogenesis/vaccine studies.
He moved to Hamilton in fall, 2008. His studies at RML have focused on hantaviruses of North and South Americas, and hemorrhagic fever viruses in West Aftrica, including Lassa and Ebola. His work has taken him to Mali several times, most recently to assist with diagnosing Ebola cases there, as well as in Liberia.
